Today, our modern production site covers an area of 40,000 m2, at a major intersection of European motorways. With a turnover of around 50 million euros and some 200 staff Crown Bedding belongs to the larger players in the industry. Here's some information about the development over the past century.

1901At the beginning of the 20th century the predecessor of Crown Bedding was established in Amsterdam. The company, named VEFA, produced coil springs for car seats and mattresses. |

1958 VEFA started a joint venture with a British company called Slumberland. The name of the joint venture was Crown Bedding. |

1960 VEFA and Crown Bedding moved to Hoorn (NL). There they started the production of household items, Christmas decorations, springs, mattresses and boxsprings. |

1966 In 1966 Crown Bedding became a supplier to the first European Holiday Inn hotel. A new and promising market was tapped. |

1967Crown Bedding developed the first bed with a TV, which was electrically height adjustable. This technical tour de force shook up the sleeping world. |

1969At the end of the sixties, Crown Bedding took the concept of ‘Swedish sleep’ to the Benelux countries. For the first time Scandinavian sleep was connected to relaxation and health. |

1971 In Ouwegem Crown Bedding & Furniture NV Belgium was established. |

1974The first building was a production hall, in order to produce the tissue used for sleeping bags, duvets & quilting. A year later it was followed by the warehouse that is now a part of Bedding. From the second half of the seventies the Belgian and the Dutch army became customers. The main products were thermo suits and sleeping bags. |

1976The construction of a new foam and mattress factory. |

1977-1978The opening of the new mattress factory in Ouwegem/Zingem with its own foam factory. |

1986 A flood turned the Zingem region into a disaster area. Some successful models from the eighties.

Extension 1986-1990In the second half of the eighties, the company expanded. After several new constructions and some renovations, the production site was back up-to-date. |
